The deeply rooted mixture of Animism & Hinduism, their belief in Satyam Shivam Sundaram; Truth, Enlightenment & Purity, & daily religious rites keep the people are little affected by the outside influences. This is the secret of Balinese magic aura.
If one looks for the quintessence of Bali, it is lies in Ubud, a "soul of Bali" : Surrounded rice paddies, lush greenery, and abundance of water, artists & atisans of all genres; painters, wood & srone carvers, dancers, musicians, furniture makers. People here are essentially artists.
After seven decades of a peripatetic existence from Inner Mongolian - Russian border outpost to many lands, the founder calling himself a "stray dog", unearthed a strip of land; along the dge of a ravine; above terraced rice paddies & forest and below Wos River tumbles through its rocky course in an spoiled village in Ubud. To him, it was a providential gift from the Heaven.
Here he finally realized his life-long dream of setting up a modest workshop to preserve & create traditional arts & crafts.
First, he created Michi Foundation for the expressed purpose & later Michi Village Retreat in order to support yhe mission & activities of the foundation.
It has taken nearly 10 years in construction, expansion & renovation for the whole complex.
The staffs fully owned and managed. Michi Village Retreat.
The founder remains as an adviser-residence. |
