Michi retreat is an eclectic maze land reflecting the founder’s life style & taste. Without the aid of any outside professionals, he worked with a group of village farmers where the property is located. Without any specific job classifications, Balinese villagers are a well round artisans, builders & musicians. Reflecting his love for nature’s organic lines, there does not seem to be straight line anywhere. Colors & design seem uncoordinated but merge into a whole with breathtaking ease. No architect, with a strict sense of conformist design, could have conceived Michi Retreat; nor did one. It is simply an old man’s whimsical play. Without being conscious, Michi Retreat resulted in a kind of an artwork itself.

Each unit represents the man’s mood & his experience in his life-long journey. It is a three-dimension album of his life.

In contract to other villas & retreats where local people are kept at a discreet distance from the guests, here the village people are easily accessed.

Expressing the founder’s inner feelings in the whole concept & construction, he has passed on Michi to his village employees. His wish is that his ashes are returned to the site to form a final & permanent bond. It completes the cycle that started so long ago.

Michi was born from a spiritual journey through time and a world of different traditions and beliefs. The result is his ultimate creation, accommodating various elements of religion and culture.

Michi, a Chinese character for a road, journey or teaching, provides guests a journey to many different worlds, all in just one place. It co-joins ancient tradition in modern, millennium-inspired rooms.
